TikTok is adding TikTok Voice Comments to the thread under videos. Tap the microphone in the comment box, record up to 60 seconds, and anyone can tap to listen. The company says the feature is rolling out globally over the next month to accounts 18 and older.
TikTok is also shipping Comment Polls, Photo Carousel Comments, and Live Photo Comments. It says more than 1.7 billion comments already land on the app every day. Instead of leaving the comment section as a text dump, the company wants it to sound and look more like the rest of TikTok.
Voice comments, with a hard age gate
Sound already runs the For You feed. Now TikTok wants that same energy under the video. It calls Voice Comments a new way to post and listen to audio messages directly under any video. Specifically, it frames that as laughing at a meme, singing along, or reacting to a plot twist without typing. Meanwhile the clip stays in the thread. You do not leave the comments to play it.
However, this is not a teen feature. Only 18-and-up accounts get the mic. Treat the next-month window as a rollout, not a switch that flips tonight. We have not recorded one yet, so the real test is whether voice notes stay funny or turn the thread into noise.
Comment polls are already live
Creators can now drop a poll when they comment on their own video. Tap the poll icon, add up to five options, and set how long voting lasts. Then results sit in the comment section as votes come in. TikTok suggests outfit picks, what to cook, or the next video idea.
Also, only the creator of that video can start the poll. Random commenters do not get a vote widget of their own. As a result, this is closer to a built-in ask than to a sticker stunt or a Live-only trick. It sits next to other comment experiments, including Reddit’s video comments.
Nine photos, plus Live Photos
Photo Carousel Comments let people attach up to nine images in one comment. TikTok’s example is a travel reply that dumps a whole vacation set instead of one still. That carousel is rolling out globally over the next month.
In addition, Live Photo Comments are already global. You can upload a Live Photo from the camera roll so the comment plays a short burst of motion before the still. Still, none of this replaces a video reply. It is a smaller cousin of tools like X’s React with Video. Besides the screenshots, TikTok has not posted a public help article with every limit.
